02/10/2010 5:00 AM

Dear all,

In our erection field we use lifting lugs for lifting various structures and other equipment. I want to know how to select a lifting lug ( now we select on basis of thickness) is there specfic calculations ? Kindly explain in detail about the same

I love these types of questions, and they always remind me of an analogy I read somewhere.

What would people think if somebody walked into an operating room and said, "Hi, I just graduated. Please teach how to be a doctor/how to perform heart surgery."

ASME has standards for the design of lifting lugs. This would consists of shock loads, angle, base weldment, pin diameter, cross section of material on lifting plane....

.

I wrote an excel program just for this. send me a message of your email address, and send you it.

In it it describes the formula's and will give you warnings if your lug is too light..

- Download the following file for Lifting_Lug_Sizing_as_per_TEMA,

- Then select the size of shackle from that file (4th page) Crospy_Shackles.
