Output Voltage of Three-Phase Transformer

02/10/2010 7:45 AM

Take an ordinary 415v/240v-3ph step down transformer with the primary connected star or delta. What would be the corresponding output voltage across 3 secondary coils if the windings were connected in series.

Home work alert .

Still Hint: draw phasor diagram.

Another : depends on sequence.

Sorry, Your previous posts do not indicate that you are a homeworker .

Still follow the hint. Whether in star or delta, the three phasors (assuming it is balanced) are equal in magnitude, 120o apart.

Draw A normal phasor diagram, and you will see the voltage And you might be just a bit surprised.

The second part is the sequence- if you connect wrong way in series, the phasor of the particular phase will reverse.

Thirdly what do you expect the circulating current in the coils? that will have to exist in case of the potential difference and will be a virtual short circuit at the joint.
