Leakage Inside Condenser for 210-MW KWU Turbine

1. Find the source of the leak.

2. Repair the leak.

Or, if you have no one on staff competent to find and repair the leak, just turn the radio up.

Some more information is required in order to assist diagnosis.

Are you saying that you have a steam leak near your condenser or do you have a cooling water leak into the condensate side?

A feed water test will soon tell you if you have contamination occurring.

What sort of air ejector is fitted to your condenser?

Steam turbines for power generation can be incredibly boring when they are running well. When things go wrong they can be very exciting with a high level of death and wounding among the engineering staff. This why after any maintenance it is a good policy to have the people that did the maintenance in close proximity to the work that they performed when the machine is brought up to its operating speed and synchronised.

If you can hear a leak next to a 210 MW turbine you may have a serious problem. Can you give us a few more specific details and how long is it to the next planned outage?

We traced leakage inside condenser from compensator provided on extrction No A2 steam line and decided to replce it in next shut down opportunity.

Nomenclature of leaking compensator is DN 600 and we decided to replace it. please guide me how to approach the bellow? Is it essential to lift LP Turbine top cover or any other way to approach it without major work? Is there any man hole approach near expansion bellow? Which welding electrode/ technique to be used for welding workfor expansion bellows?

If you have an audible leak at the top of your condenser you are probably loosing some vacuum.

If that is the case you may be achieving dew point further up the system rather than in the condenser.

This will lead to serious erosion of the last few rows of your Low Pressure turbine blades. Which then leads to an out of balance turbine that is still spinning. This is not good and can be very interesting during the running down period.

(Interesting = Dangerous = Expensive)
