why in power plant alternators rated at KV are used

May be the OP wants to generate power im Volts or Milivolts ?

NOTE: it is KV and not KVA what OP is asking about.

It's Simple Rule -

KVA = Sq Root 3 x Voltage x Current

If you Increase the voltage for the Same KVA output of the Alternator the Current will Decrease.

Power Plant alternators are suppose to deliver the Power through the long Disctibution Lines, High Voltage / Low Current Means Low Transmission / Distribution Line Losses.
