Shipping Containers

02/15/2010 7:24 AM

I am looking for a good source for some used shipping containers to be used for storage on our farm in western NC. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've bought quite a few. There are many sources for containers of different types and in different condition. Their locations are primarily in or near major shipping ports; for you that would be Norfolk, Baltimore or Charleston. The prices can be very attractive, but the catch (there's always a catch) is in transporting to where you want them. That cost can well exceed the cost of the containers and suddenly it doesn't look so good. If you have or know someone with a suitable truck for transport, you're probably going to make out alright.

Just Google "used shipping containers".

Pick the Company who's nearest your neck of the woods

As far as transporting them goes, we mostly use a Tilting flatbed auto towtruck. That said, we do mostly use 20 footers, or smaller. The 'towies' will drive halfway to the moon for a very small fee. The realm is very congested, and therefore competitive. There'd have to be long-bed flatbeds tho' if you need.

Hope this helps.

Try mobilmini.com or rentnational.com , they both rent and sell shipping containers.

Drums are often sold at local farm auctions/consignments.
