Dimmable Fluorescent Ballasts

02/25/2010 10:59 AM

I searched CR4 and only found a couple of older links for "Fluorescent Dimmer" and "Custom Fluorescent Ballasts".

What is the current state of technology for dimmable fluorescent ballasts for 4' and 8' T8 lamps?

How much is the lamp life shortened by the use of a dimmable ballast? In my application we will be using a 3500º K lamp.

I think the technology must be quite good now. Many of the local stores around my region have their lighting systems set up woth 4 foot dimmable fixtures.

I dont know how dimming may affect the bulb life but given the power savings I think it aparantly more than justifys the costs now.

Funny I just finished a PPT presentation for a client yesterday which would have answered your question perfectly! But then you would have to send me lots of work ;-)

After the lecture someone gave me this website address which will also help answer your question.

http://www.4dlighting.co.uk/html/technical_information.html - sorry, link no longer available

Note that if this is a new installation you will find T5 lamps will give a more efficient and cost effective solution.
