1995 Dodge Caravan - Engine Stalls

02/27/2010 4:25 PM

I recently put a new transmission in and now my engine stalls when it is running for about 20 minutes. If I let it sit for about the same amount of time it will again run for about 15 minutes and the does it again. I pulled the codes and got 12,43,34,55. I've replaced the coolant sensor but the problem persists. Any advice would be greatly aprecciated. I posted the same question on another site but haven't received a reply and it has been more than a week so I'm giving this one a try.

when you say 'running', do you mean idling or driving along?

This sounds like a fuel pump failure, which is a nuisance, if that is the problem?

It does not totally fail, it just feeds less. Could be a blocked filter or failing pump.

allpar will tekk you how to test it or you can pay money to a garage.

As I recall, you need to drain and remove the gas tank on older Caravans, but they may have fixed that repairability issue by 1995

the codes are here.

You might join the allpar forum, might give you faster ansers.

Hello abeachbob,

Sounds like the problem is related to the #43 Problem in power module to logic module interface. You could have a wiring harness connector that became loose during transmission removal as well.

Trouble Codes: for 1980 - 1990 These were the only codes found that had a number less than #60. You can connect a Dodge dealer to clarify information below.

  • #12 Battery or computer recently disconnected (will occur on most cars most of the time, it indicates a low / missing battery happened in the last 50 key starts. Don't worry about it.
  • #34 (1984-86) EGR solenoid circuit shorted or open
  • #34 (1987-1991) speed control shorted or open
  • #43 Peak primary coil current not achieved with max dwell time
    OR
  • #43 Cylinder misfire
    OR
  • #43 Problem in power module to logic module interface Normally the computer will eventually reset itself; you can also use a scan tool. (See our transmission repair page for information on resetting the computer's transmission information.) Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes generally resets the computer, though it also means losing clock settings. Sid Willoughby wrote: "To clear the check engine light on a 2002 Dodge Ram once the problem is resolved. Start the engine and drive forward then in reverse (you only have to move the truck a few feet in each direction) the turn the ignition off. Do this sequence three times. When you start the vehicle the fourth time the check engine light should go out." (This procedure may well work on other vehicles.) Regards, Tim
