Temporary Welded Blanking Plates for Pipe Spool Testing

03/01/2010 1:25 PM

Can anyone tell me how to calculate what thickness of plate is required when blanking off a manufactured open ended pipe. The plates are to welded onto both ends to allow for pressure testing of the item and cut off again afterwards.

There are portable Hydro-test plugs used for hydrotesting for open pipe ends.

Check into that as well.

More economical than welding, etc.

So what happens to the metal that is disturbed during the cutting-off process as regards its suitability after the pressure test? Can the forum assume it is cold-sawn and not burnt off?
