Pump Shafts - Grooves and Sleeves

on a pump shaft, a mechanical seal is given a sleeve & the shaft is having a 0.2 mm groove while sleeve has a light outer edge on the groove mating location. why there is light groove on shaft?

i have a doubt its because to prevent air locks

In it axial groove or radial? a sketch would have made the thing clear.

Give make, size and model number of mechanical seal.
