Hi all,
what is meant by a tapped exhaust connection in a pneumatic relay? does this has any effect on the operation of the relay.
e.g. Fairchild 24 snap-acting relay
regards

I expect this means the exhaust hole is tapped for a muffler, or return pipe so the relay doesn't spray moisture on stuff. Since this is a relay, maybe they just mean that this is the exit pipe location to the item being controlled.
Any proportional pneumatic controller/regulator with a pilot valve must have 3 ports, inlet, outlet and exhaust, by definition of function. A tapped exhaust simply means that the exhaust port is tapped with internal threads so that piping or tubing can be attached to run the exhaust medium wherever.
Dale Patrick's and Steven Patrick's explanation of pilot valve operation:
The components of a pilot valve are:
1) 2 variable restricitions
2) a mechanism for simultaneously varying 2 restrictions
3) a backpressure compartment
