Electric Panel Assembly Workbench

03/05/2010 9:39 AM

Dear all,

I am searching for/designing a workbench for the electrical assembly team in our factory. We usually assemble electrical panels for conveyors and machines (panel 3mx2m maximum size).

The panel must have vertical adjustment(motor power screw) and horizontal (angular) adjustment (manual).

question:

Can anybody guide me to the requirements of such workbenches? as electrical engineers or technicians, what do you need in a workbench, what flexibility you seek?

I want to create the most comfortable working conditions for our electricians.

Our panels contain mainly relays, inverters, PLCs, Drivers for Servos..., we work mainly at 400V/220V rated current 60A rated power 40KW. (these are approximative figures to give you an idea about the size of the components).

waiting anxiously for your inputs.

have a nice week end,

Two pieces of advice...

1) Go and ask this question of the people who will be doing the assembly work for you. They will give you answers that will make their life easier, which should make the process more efficient.

2) Lots of light! Dark work areas can place quiet a strain on your workers.

The best things I have for my work bench are: an overhead crane on tracks so it can center over any part of my bench, even flip items over for me. I can flip one hundred pound doors myself, no helper. I have all my air and power coming from above. That avoids tripping over cords and hoses, and they are less likely to get hung up on what I'm working on. The air is coiled, retracts nicely, and I hang the end on the one-to-three electric extension cord that is just at arms reach from both sides of the bench. I can walk all around the bench, and as the other poster said, lots of light.
