stepper motor

hello sir,

my self vimal nayak from ahmedabad .i m a final year student.actully i want to know that if i want to carry approxy 2.5 to 3 kg by stepper motor with 24 steps .i want to use the 15' d step angle motor ..mean i m going to make a lift whcich has a weight of 2.5 kg so i confused in is the stepper motor lift this much weidht to 30 cm distance or not???

or if it can then which stepper motor can do this....????

I guess that English is not your primary language, we will all try and help you still, but be patrient with us as you infos were far from complete.....

Gearing will help to allow a small motor to lift a heavy weight.

A worm drive will lock if the power to the motor is removed as well as gearing the motor down for more power....stopping the weight from taking charge.....

A simple driver circuit can be made with a 555 and a few other chiips, or buy a dedicated chip to drive steppers.

Correct!

I'd add that all 15° stepper motors I've ever seen were very small, so a considerable amount of gearing would be required to lift that large a load. A worm gear system would indeed probably be most appropriate.

The OP did not say how quickly he needed to lift the load, so we can't be sure whether a small motor will do the job.
