High Speed Small Conveyor System

02/02/2007 3:34 PM

Greetings all,

I'd like to ask for opinions here regarding a load free flat belt conveyor system that I've been ask to design & build.

The specifications are:

Dimension: ~0.9 ft wide x 5 ft length x 4 ft height

Frame: Assembled from aluminum extrusion profiles

Work load: None

Desired webspeed: 6.6 ft/s

Now my doubts are, whether the desired web speed is too much for such small scale conveyor system? and what kind of reliability issues that may occur in the future?

Thanks in advance for any opinions given... :)

Typical industrial DC motors operate at 1748 RPM's with 90 volts applied. If you use the proper gearing (ie reducer, drive sprocket, driven sprocket and diameter head and tail pulleys) I don't see a problem with this conveyor.

Start with the desired speed 6.6 ft/s = 396 ft/min. Select head and tail pulleys (say .5 ft diameter = 1.57 ft/Rev.) the drive pulley or head pulley would have to turn at 252.23 RPM. Therefore, the total reduction derived from the reducer and drive/driven sprocket ratio would have to be chosen to have a 6.93 : 1 ratio.

You say Work Load=Nil

Means carrying nothing!

Then any speed/steepness can be built/run.

A company in Ohio, Leebaw Mfg. (www.leebaw.com) makes a similar conveyor for counting individual textile pieces. You may be able to look to this for an idea.

Also, I read on this GlobalSpec site under new technology I believe that has a article about a company that make small conveyor systems just like the one you're asking.
