I-Beams vs. C-Channels

Instead of 'I' beam can i use 'C' Channel if yes then why?

Each shape has applications for which they work best. You have to consider the details before you can answer the question.

This is a question that comes up about every six months, I think. It looks so simple, but boy is it complicated.
