Replacing EPROMs on Chevy Vans

03/15/2010 10:31 AM

Has anyone out there been sucessful replacing EPROM units

on Chev Vans ? GM stopped making EPROMs specific to their

lineup , making obtaining new replacement chips impossible.

Yes, Get your parts person to look up the prom # if you don't have a book. MOST were superseded and the original # is not available. What year is it? What engine / trans. I just have a freind at chevy and have had van and pickup issues since 93

Hello Venture 1,

I can help you find the proper Eprom if you provide engine /trans. details, year and make of Van.

Most ECM modules can be removed and Eprom just plugs into a circuit board socket. There is a notch on the end of the chip, make sure it goes back on in the same orientation.

Note: The Eprom only stores a program that is character-specific to your vehicle. This allows GM to make one ECM module to facilitate many car or truck makes.

You should be able to use the original Eprom in a new or used ECM, providing the ECM has the same Model Number. Unless the Eprom is damaged or has been erased with ultra-violet light through glass access window it should be good. If the program for your Eprom is obtained, you can compare the check sum of the program to the original Eprom check sum using an EPROM burner and software.

There some companies that make Eprom upgrades for high-performance applications.

Let me know vehicle information..

Thank you in advance

Best Regards, Tim

Are you throwing any codes now? These were the first years that the TRANSMISSION LOAD Sensor (collar) ran the computer, not vacuum.
