WiFi Linear Sensor

03/16/2010 4:31 PM

I am wanting a sensor to record linear movement to 1 micron resolution, at 20 Hz (or more) and to record the data to a logger(memory stick). Application is for measuring wind loads on trees in remote sites. I have been doing this for several years using a Solartron digital probe which is great for accuracy but not for the interface.

Strain gauges and analogue signals are subject to noise so if I can get digital output with wifi interface that would be great.

You can piece together what you are looking for from components and microprocessors from parallax.com.

I checked parallax.com but they do not have a linear sensor. I am looking for something more off the shelf as I do not have the programming skills to put components including microprocessors together.

Never gonna happen. One millionth of a meter is a small quantity.

I am already measuring 1 millionth of a meter (micron) with a digital sensor from Solartron. Results are stunning with no signal noise and great reliability. Problem is in the interface as they do not have wifi.

Their latest sensor is accurate to 0.2 micron. Website
