what are the protections need to be taken, when a DG set synchronized to GRID

you need to know what size in kW you are synchronising to the grid. if the capacity is too small, the protection maybe too expensive. At the least consider the following (i hope you are familiar withe ANSI device Codes): 50/51 directional type 87 40 32 81, with rate of change settings 27/59, with rate of change settigs 85 with mains failure or out of synch feature 49 for windings main failure is very important regardless of size what are the protections need to be taken, when a DG set synchronized to GRID

check synchronisation relay and vector shift relays are also to be considered.

check synchronisation relay == device 85 vector shift relays are also to be considered ==> some 85 devices has this. We call it too as Mains Failure Relay

Synchronising Relay is 25 (as per ANSI) standard.
