An agitator is a device that stirs fluid.

In a round about way it can be. The agitator often has an associated tachometer measuring the revolutions of the agitator shaft. The output of that instrument is frequently an input to a plc to monitor agitator speed. Or, inlieu of the tachometer, most agitators are run with a VFD and the speed ouput from that can be a plc input. So, the answer is maybe with many qualifiers. Got that?

If you have a P&ID which infers an agitator input to a plc, which I have seen, it is probably a speed input.
