Really the thing that finally led me to the answer was good internet search technique. I'm not that smart, just stubborn sometimes.

There is no wrong way to get a correct answer.......ok, maybe you shouldn't harm anyone in the process if possible..... but you get what I'm saying.

In graduate school we had a set of "comprehensive tests" to make sure we understood the basic concepts of physics. It's very hard, mostly because you have to remember obscure trig functions in order to solve some integrals. On the test you are allowed to use calculators but you can't have a cheat sheet of trig identities. I thought that was stupid. I felt like they were saying that it was beneath us to memorize sine tables and multiplication tables (just use a calculator) but somehow not beneath us to memorize trig identities even though it requires a 2 second google search to get them in the real world. What is the point of having us memorize (I'm not saying "learn", I know we need to "learn" them) if we can call them up in seconds?

I purposefully made the series difficult to solve by doing a google search, so when you got the answer, you earned it, thus my quote for a week.

Certainly not me! I never thought of numbers "getting along nicely" with their neighbors, but it does make a certain kind of sense here.

Another factor is how long you spend thinking about it. The shorter the more extroverted and the longer more introverted. Implied, shorter: very little reflection; longer: enjoys reflecting on meaning and tangential thoughts.

I note that, although your riddle has been solved, no one has solved my riddle, which I posed in your thread as an offering to those without Mikerho's patience and diligence... sort of a consolation prize. It requires no Internet searching, and can be solved either entirely by noodling without the use of paper, or by jotting down a couple numbers here and there. For most engineering types, I think a calculator could be used, but would not be of great help.
