Start by defining it in process terms:

  • How big does it need to be?
  • How high up does it need to be?
  • What's it feeding?
  • At what flowrate?
  • Does it need insulation?
  • Does it need covering?
  • Does it need pressure rating? If so, what?
  • What are the preferred materials-of-construction?

Then bring in the mechanical terms:

  • What is supporting it?
  • How is it to be fabricated?
  • How is it to be erected?

Etc., etc.
