what is difference between "Earth fault & Restricted earth fault"

Both are earth faults only, but if you add a word "protection" to these then there is a difference.

Earth Fault Protection is a general protection, which senses any fault current to earth (down stream from main breaker) and operates the protective device depending on its setting. Restricted Earth Fault Protection is a Zonal Protection primarily used in alternators to shutdown the generator in the event of any earth fault within the zone (main breaker to alternator terminals) & within alternator itself.
