GB Standards in English

04/06/2010 8:02 PM

I'm guessing this would mainly be directed towards Chinese engineers- looking for either a book or some resource on the web that would allow me to look up GB standards in English. I use a lot of GB here at work, but the only books we have are all in Chinese and I only read English and Spanish. I can decipher most of the numbers and get the general idea of what something is, but it would sure be handy to have something like that. I mainly deal with hardware, seals and bearings, not too much outside of that.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Mike,

G B is for "Great Britain". You know, your origin. Mike is English w"ho" should know that, Gil.

NB: It doesn't help!

GB stands for Guobiao (simplified Chinese: 国标; traditional Chinese: 國標; pinyin: Guóbiāo), Chinese for national standard.

Thats helpful- but I need some real detail if anyone knows of where to find it.

For those of you who havent seen the designations, for example GB93 is a standard split lock washer, GB91 is a split cotter pin, and on and on. I come across some strange ones (my company does some manufacturing in China) and I need to be able to track things down fast.

Hi Dolly,

If you have a company in China, you have someone in China who speaks Chinese, isn't it? From now on, you contact this person through Internet and ask her/him what you need. It will be satisfactory for your work, I guarrantee it. If you need more, the next time I go to China, I will let you know and provide some help, Gil.

In site 4shared, you can find a lot of free downloads, just write a word or name of the book you look for in the "Search In" box and click "Search". Try Hardware , Seals & Bearings.

Why not contact somebody at the Singapore Standards Institute (SISIR)? I would think they would be able to help.

Hi Dolly,

Chinese immigrants have some small computers for under $100 that translates every English word into Chinese just for understanding. You can do the same in the opposite direction. I already used and it's worked well. I hope you can solvage your translation with around $100 expenses? You don't need to buy, someone can rent you for less but you have to work harder and faster to get what you want, Gil.
