Faults & Electricution

04/07/2010 12:03 AM

Guys,

During faults, what or where really the current is going? isn't that it will go thru the fault loop conductor which are electrically bonded (connected) to exposed extrenous metal parts? Aren't we get electricuted when we happen to touch to the metal part or even to grounded conductor itself during faults?

We get electrocuted when we provide a path for the electricity from the source to earth, or an area of lower potential.

We can get electrocuted by a battery if we provide a path from positive to negative.

Even while the electricity is flowing through the circuit in a normal fashion, there is still the chance of electrocution if you provide an alternate circuit. It will lite up you and the circuit. Series or parallel, you can get shocked.

The purpose of the earth conductor is to operate the circuit protective device once a fault has developed.
