Pollution Prevention Plans for Ships

04/07/2010 1:29 AM

We are from shipbuilding side. At present we are making two ships (Multipurpose support vessels) for a client in Singapore. The ships are bulit under DNV classifiation.

For these ships the following plans as per DNV's 'Clean' Notation are required to be prepared.

1. Fuel oil management plan

2. Sewage Management Plan

3. Refrigerant Management Plan

But there are very few guidelines from DNV.

I request you to provide me some help in this regard.

Regards.

Sewage management plan

There are a saying "if it does not kill it is fattening" , The ocean has many scavengers that were designed / evolved to clean biodegradable waste.

You need to filter out plastics etc or keep it separated.

You may however keep the sewage in a holding tank while in a harbour or confined area.

Ahh Hendrik - "wat nie dood maak nie maak vet". Possibly, but ships have come a long way. Even in the late '70s when I was at sea we had complete sewage sytems on the most modern and civilised of ships. We pumped clean purified water overboard and incinerated the solid waste.

In Afrikaans we add a double negative nie (not) at the back.

You can understand by reading "Wat nie doodmaak maak vet"
