No-load losses

04/09/2010 10:41 AM

I have a wye delta transformer, and have performed the no load test, I`v connected the source to wye side.

The thing is that when i ground the wye side of the transformer the total no-load losses are greater than the ones when the wye side is not grounded. I know it could be because of the zero sequence current flowing on the delta side. But would like a deeper explanation, ¿could someone help?

So what is your reply for Wye Delta Transformer Acting as a Source thread?

First of all make it clear that zero sequence current flows only in the neutral and as in delta connection there is no neutral point so there is no zero sequence current in delta winding.

Secondly when you ground the neutral point of star winding and measure no load losses, your losses will be higher because the tank body and clamping structure of transformer is grounded the and stray looses occuring in them adds to the no load loss measurement but if neutral is not grounded then you are measuring only the core losses.
