Consistency,

Better Control,

Uniform Heat Applied,

Cleaner,

Cheaper to use,

Safer,

Heating blankets can be insulated,

PreWHT can be accomplished in stages,

Interpass HT can be better controlled,

PostWHT can be insulated and temperature held at specified temperature and duration,

Ramp down in heat (cooling to ambient) can be better controlled.

The main reason would be that properly used and applied induction heating would offer more control and consistency.

The use of induction for preheat and PWHT (post weld heat treatment) has several advantages, and also disadvantages.

Since others have given some of the advantages, I will list some of the disadvantages:

You need a separate induction machine for each weld

Some metals do not couple well (low ferrite content)

Does not give top and bottom control (you can change the distance between coils to help compensate.)

Water cooled coils may leak

The main advantage is the welders love 'em.

They maybe safer than electrical resistance coils.

hello, You are right

We have an induction heating machine which is an air cooling used for pwht well.

Pls check the web for reference.

http://www.induction-heating-machine.com/manufacturer-induction_preweld_heating_pwht_stress_relieving_machine-4081.html

But it has many many advantage also.

Induction heating benefits

Compared to conventional preheating and stress relieving methods, induction heating offers numerous advantages, including improved heat uniformity and quality, reduced cycle time, and lower consumables costs. Induction heating is also safe, reliable and easy to use, and scores higher than alternative technologies in power efficiency and versatility.
