Transformer Magnetizing Current

04/17/2010 3:05 PM

Dear sir,

We have 315KVA ,11KV/415V ,ZNyn11(d1) transformer for auxiliary supply purpose.

when i give 415V at HV side it takes 41mA as magnetizing current,(secondary open circuit)

how i calculate this magnetizing current ?

thank you,

B.JEYACHANDRAN

conduct an open circuit test on the transformer.....check out this link for connections and calculations

at 11 kv it may be about 0.5A. appears a little on higher side.1)Check with an true rms meter since the mag impedance is highly non linear near the ankle points.2)Check with the mfgr test report.3)If you have a 3ph 30A dimmer very slowly and very carefully increase excitation from 415 v side and try to obtain the mag characteristics stop if you observe a disproportional increase in current after 60v.
