Driveway Gate - Part 2

04/18/2010 1:55 PM

here are some pictures of the gate 'we' built.

(part 1 - http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/45554)

alot of the feedback i received from you fine gentleman was incorporated into the finished product. regardless of whether or not i used a particular idea, i wanted to say thank you to everyone for taking the time to share your thoughts.

i'm going to put some hinges on the face of the gate (real hinges, but decorative for my purposes) to simulate the look of of a dual-door gate, put another coat of paint on the hinge and strike-side posts and do something to preserve the wood when the weather dries up a little.

mechanically though, it's done. works great.

we've had some monster winds recently which it handled fine.

i can stand on the strike side of the gate through its range and it has no problem with that load either (i weigh 205 lbs.).

again guys, thanks.

And, in a pinch you can lay it down and use it as an emergency bridge!

Really nice job. My compliments on your skills. The nonfunctional hinges will beg a handle in the middle for the full effect.

Thank you for the excellent feedback. We don't often get much and most of that's whining.

Nice addition to a great looking house.

Thanks again.

Lyn

A drawbridge, no less! I remember the thread, but not the motorized actuator.

Job well done.

A fantastic job well done Mr. Horsepower! They don't get any better than this. Many thanks for sharing with us the finished project.

I'll be installing my 6-foot wooden stockade fence to replace the old one, all 500 LF of it round the back yard, within the next week or so. The project will include a 12-foot gate (2 leafs) and a 6- foot gate, but without actuators (don't need them). I just hope that they turn-out as nice as yours did!

Of course, everything is weather dependant here.....
