Flange Facing Finish

04/25/2010 10:06 PM

I've read that there are smooth finish flanges to use metallic gasket & serrated finish to use non metallic gasket. But ASME B16.5, cl. 6.4.5.3. says either serrated concentric or serrated spiral finish having a resultant surface finish from 3.2 to 6.3 micro meter average roughness shall be furnished.

It is not clear to me. Can anyone explain this to me in detail?

Thanks in advance

Where? We use metallic gaskets on ASME (and DIN) flanges.

Use the quoted ASME flange surface finish for all gasket types.
