Your question is not well defined.

I suggest you purchase or borrow a book called "Process Heat Transfer" by D. Q. Kern, and read the relevant section.

Hi,

Contact the manufacturer of the AHU. They have the software to size the battery in terms of air flow rate, required off-coil temperature and working temperature of the cooling media. You must also know the ambient (on-coil) conditions as there may well be a de-hum function to consider, therefore both sensible and latent heat loads can be present.

You will save time and get a more realistic outcome if you follow this path.

Massey.

In order to size a thermal transfer coil (hot water, chilled water, refrigeration), the design engineer is required to know the following:

1. CFM of the air handler

2. Thermal load in BTU/Hour

3. Design temperatures including internal set points, outside air design, building U values, building orientation, etc.

4. GPM required for the load or pounds of refrigerant required for the load.

What are your design requirements? Once these are known, you can utilize the ACCA Manual J or N calculations to size your coil. Once the tonnage or heating BTU/Hour is known, the coil manufacturer can build the appropriate coil to fit your AHU.

BTU, CFM, GPM, OMG.

I am sure your advice is well founded in practice, but one has to feel sorry for you guys working in these antiquated units. Heat transfer coefficients are one of the best examples of the awkwardness of the Imperial measurement system.

India has had the metric system for more than 50 years, as I understand it.

I presume that you are from India. Based on load calculations refer Voltas or blue star handbook or their software to select the AHU and coils. If you want to design a coil you have to understand the design of heat exchanger either by LMTD or Effectiveness NTU method.
