Torque Calculation For a Tilting Unit

05/04/2010 6:46 AM

hi,
i want to calculate the torque required for a tilting unit consisting of a motor, its housing and a payload (much like a cctv camera mount). can i add up all torques like inertia torque(f*r), torque due to angular acceleration (I*alpha) and torque due to wind resistance to get the total torque required by the driving motor.
please correct me if this a wrong methodology.

Torque works additively (just like adding forces), so as long as you're careful to get everything in the right units, it should be fine.
