Try asking a local sales office.

There are many factors to consider first....elavations of transceiver sites.....height and type of antennae...output wattage of the transmitter, frequency band, length and thickness of coax cable etc. A 25 watt power supply would be recommended. A repeater configuration may be required if ideal conditions do not exist. If line of site conditions exist, yagi antennas would probably work. However, even if the portable could RX the base, it would be doubtful if the base could RX the portable....base stations generally operate on higher TX wattage (15 watts and up)...portables are usually only 5 watts Tx capacity without the use of a mid area repeater. The rule of thumb is 1 mile per watt TX thus max portable TX = 5 miles The other problem would be in the acquisition of a frequency that will not cause interference with others, especially public safety operations.

Hope this helps

Greetings......The SX 700 is an FRS unit designed for the mass public market.....Manufacturers quote coverage ranges under IDEAL conditions ie. used in a high location with no obstruction, and free from RF interference in a clear atmosphere. If all conditions were ideal and the batteries at peak, 12 miles would be at fringe coverage capabilities. However, with the operating freq. at mid VHF in the SX700 , the coverage stated is doubtful. By industry safety standards, the maximum FR output is limited to 6 watts. The RF output in the SX700 would probably be 4 to 5 watts (If that)....Motorola Low Band commercial portables operating around 60 mhz at 6 Watts RF output only yield 5 miles in true portable to portable coverage. Try to get your hands on a set of the SX 700s and let the units prove the claims before you purchase..

Regards
