Electronic Controlled Valves? (1" to 2")

05/11/2010 6:00 AM

Hi. I need a valve that can be opened or shut electronically (12v) which can be used on 1", 1.5" or 2" pipes. I know they exist but I do not know the trade name so not much luck Googling. What are they called? Any suggestions? This is for a fuel line (output from a tank). Thanks.

Electronically controlled valves have different name according to their functionality. There are Solenoid Valve or Actuators, Control Valves, etc. Solenoid Valve is operated through plunger(used for open n shut the valve) which is controlled by a magnetic force. when we supply power to the valve it operates the plunger by means of magnetic force and this magnetic force pushes plunger Up and down or rotates the ball (when using Ball Valve), so operation of Solenoid valve is controlled. Controlled valves are controlled either Electrically or Pneumatically. You can select a valve according to your requirements. for i" to 2" check Solenoid or actuator Valves. Some time Solenoid and actuators are considered different types of electrically controlled valves

Hi and thanks for your reply. I would say that the flow in this application is 50-100LPM. What type of valve would you suggest? And how do I specify the valve correctly? (other than flow rate). All I have been able to find so far are very small ones for automotive use and very large ones for huge pipes....

you can specify your valve using NPS (pipe dia, sch etc), temperature, Pressure, end connection (pipe and valve end type, i.e. flanged type, welded type or threaded), also type of valve (as i mentioned earlier that electrically controlled valve can be a Plunger Type, Ball type or any other, you should specify this too) etc Check this website for valve hope you will find your required valve http://www.parker.com/ and also try to search Solenoid Valve instead of actuator.

It is important to consider what is flowing in the pipe. What type of medium the valve is suppose to control. vsar

Znago,

You might check out "motor operated valve" as a possibility.

Try "Asco", this is a solenoid valve with wide parameters, ex: angle body, 2-way, 3-way, 4-way, Normally closed, normally open and so forth. Make sure you order right voltage and stated ac or dc when ordering. Type of product being used and heat can be an issue as well. CV for flow and redundancy if needed is an option. Asco can also supply a sol. valve with limit switches or positioner if needed, if you need a signal or to be controlled in correspondence with a DCS or PLC.

Try using an ISA spec sheet to specify a valve. It will at least give you an idea on how much information is needed to properly spec a valve other than pipe size.

As stated, Asco has a wide variety of electrically operated valves.

Try www.ascovalve.com/Applications/Products/Products.aspx Good luck.
