Chrysler Town and Country CD Player Problem

05/14/2010 2:46 PM

We have a 2007 Town and Country. Yesterday we noticed that on the cd player, the button on the right that says "FF Tune RW" is broke. It looks like one of the little plastic circle things that hold it on has busted (when and how, we have no clue). The button is just dangling there.

How hard is it to fix? Can it be fixed? Suggestions on how to fix?

Thank you so much!

Having a hard time visualizing the breakage. A picture would really help. Use the button in the editor toolbar to upload a picture.

Boy that was fast. Uploading a picture will take a little time. . .I will try right now. Be back. KKellie.

I am going to try to send a picture. It shows the button, I am holding it, held up next to the space on the CD player it came off of.

Oh, and it isn't dangling there. It is completely off. Sorry about that.

It's OK. It looks like what came off is only the switch cover/plate. Have you tried pushing it back into place?

If you press the actual button that is still in-place, can you make it do it's intended functions? If it does, then I would try to carefully press it back into place. If it won't stay, I'd go to super glue.

If it doesn't play 8-track tapes, I don't know anything about it.

Them CD's are just a fad. You just wait and see!

Look at the back of the button. If it is shiny, mike is probably right. But, since it was "hanging" I suspect that it may have been "glued".

If there are fractured, fuzzy surfaces that were at one time mated, then super glue it back together. You should be able to identify two like areas of adhesive coverage by the surface.

Send a pic of the back of the button beside the remaining "post" it was mounted to.

If you push the leftover post up and down does it work?

Thank you all for replying, but I don't think you understand what is broken. This little switch plate is just a little plastic thing that is able to rock back and forth from FWD to RWD because there are two little posts on the cd player right where the switch plate fits on, to the right and to the left. . .and the switch plate sits in place on those two little posts, held there by two tiny rings, which are just plastic and part of the plastic switch plate--think of two fingers through two doughnut holes--

One of the little rings broke. So I can put the switch on by easing the plate's right ring onto the little post, but because the left ring is broke, it doesn't stay on the little left post.

If I superglue the switch in place, it won't rock, and the switch therefore won't work. . .

Sorry,

I guess I still don't get it. It doesn't sound repairable if the ring is broken. Can you get a new plastic thing?

Good luck.

Hi. I am sorry I didn't respond sooner. You are kind to have tried! I had looked online for a new rocker switch plate. No luck there. But the next person in this forum thread gave me a good idea about glueing an o-ring on, so we will try that. But again, I do appreciate your help. kkellie

Hi,

That's OK. I didn't have any more to add so I haven't followed the thread.

I agree with you that bwire's suggestion is a good one. You should know.

Cheers.

Replace the small round thingy with a small o-ring with enough elasticity to allow remounting the rocking cover. Silicone may provide adequate bonding.
