I Need a Better Laptop

05/15/2010 9:18 PM

I Like to sit outside and watch the sunset over my garden on my Farmette All the while networking and so forth on my laptop computer. The problem I'm having is I can't see the keys on my laptop after the sun goes down.

I have an idea for what it's worth. The light from my laptop screen can illuminate the keys ,without using more battery life if I tilt the screen at the right angle. Now my problem is I can't see the screen at it's maximum brightness.

Possible Solution: What if we designed an ink that mixed the light retention quality's of phosphorus with the reflective properties street signs. The keys would illuminate themselves without placing an additional tax on the battery life?

You can colour fill the engraved letters with a phosphorus material.

The easiest would be to take a typing course at some or other academy for secretaries and start typing without visually having to confirm the key.

Or upgrade to a back lit keyboard. I had one before.

or get yourself a $11.00 USB camera with LEDs on ebay. I made a small aluminium clamp and stick it over the border of the screen.

Before rushing to any of the suggestion, start using the "ON SCREEN KEYBOARD". IF YOU HAD USED THIS, IGNORE THIS REPLY.

All are great suggestions so I'll add one more. Go to Barnes & Noble and purchase a clip-on reading light to, what else, clip on to your computer. These things give off a very low light and it is narrowly focused on an area about the size of a normal book (laptop).

I guess my biggest question is; Why are you sitting in your garden with a cotton-picking laptop and not a nice cold beer?

Swop it for an Apple. My MacBookPro (15", late 2007) has illuminated keys that automatically adapt to the external lighting conditions. Very comfortable when I'm in Africa. (They can be switched off too...)

No need to go to an Apple, my HP has a backlit keyboard. (It can be turned off as well).

My old IBM Laptop (R40) has a lamp in the top of the screen, so as to illuminate the keys.

Does OK.

It's now seven years old.

The tech is not new.

Go to your local health and beauty aids department and buy iridescent fingernail polish...the light from the screen will illuminate the keys and if you're good no duplicates will appear.
