Spot Welding Electrodes

Hi, know that you are talking about spot welding, what kind of copper alloy do you

recommend me to make the electrodes.

This post might be better answered via the Manufacturing or the Mechanical Engineering sections. Electricals generally try to avoid welding, as the contactor or switch will need to be changed and the cause of the welding corrected as a matter of priority!

It depends what materials you are welding, what kind of surface area of contact, pressure, etc. We use mostly 162 copper because of its easy availability from McMaster-Carr, as well as its compromise of electrical conductivity and hardness.machinability.

Our company uses Class II copper for the majority of electrodes. For the most high-wear applications, we use Class III copper. You may Google these terms and find more technical information. Or, you may ask for catalogs from Taylor-Winfield Corp at lmrtwcorp@aol.com.

HI, it really depends on the alloys you are welding. Class2 copper is the workhorse of the industry. There are several other aloys that are used for certain materials. The conductivity and hardness of the electrode dictate what they are used for. Typically you cannot go wrong starting with the Class 2 alloy.
