Purpose of Shunt Reactor

05/18/2010 5:18 AM

In a recent SLD which i have seen, I noticed that a 500MVA Trafo (400/132 Kv and Teriatiary Winding of 22kv) both primary and secondary are star/star and the tertiary winding is delta. The cable from the teritiary 22kv is connected to a RC unit with a rating of 22Ohms & 130 nF and the parellely to a 22kv Switchgear and tat in turn is connected parallely again to a RC unit with same rating of the first one and finally to a Shunt Reactor of 50 Mvar.

Kindly let me know the following details:

1. In this case wat for RC unit is used.

2. Why two RC's are connected parellely to s.g

3. Whether the Shunt Reactor is considered as load?

4. If not wat the shunt Reactor is meant for?

5. If shunt reactor is only to take care of the neutral displacement will it be permanently kept on or used only during charging of trafo on no load in secondary?

6.If shunt reactor is not a load then what happens to the 22kv on 3rd winding? Iam damp sure there is no load connected separetely to the s.gear.

Go back to the <...SLD...> and ask the questions to the person who drew it, the person who reviewed it, and the person who authorised it, as their details are on it and it cannot be seen from here.
