The War in Iraq

02/16/2007 6:52 AM

Yesterday(15/02/2007) the war in that far away land was brought home to me in this small town in South Africa. My cousin was killed in a mortar attack near the green zone. Both my cousin and I, are/were veterans of the Angolan bush war and served in the SADF, with operational tours and cross border incursions to our "credit".

The whole point is that his death did not even rate a mention on any news broadcasts here. I guess to get the ratings up, it has to be dozens of fatalities or some such.

To those who have to serve their, in whatever capacity, whether you are a soldier or a civilian, a contractor in construction or convoy protection, a local resident or an expatriate, take care and watch your six.

All of us at CR4 are sorry to hear of your loss.

Here in the US our thoughts go to the people in Iraq and Afghanistan (all of them) every day, but I'm sure that a personal loss is a different matter.
