Go to a tyre supplier web site and a wheel supplier web site and do some comparisons.

Bolt circle patterns may be different, depending on the difference in load carrying capacity of the two vehicles.

Someone here may know the answer, I don't.

Two people separated by a common language. Tyre/tire. "I am kitting my son out with"/ "I'm building my son"

They will fit. I have switched them around too. One problem: for the rear be careful not to use too long bolts. They mess up the parking brake mechanism. I normally use 195 width, but up to 225 should work.

According to some inspired lurking on the various Mercedes Benz forum sites, would suggest that late SL rims won't fit the W124. Apparently there is a problem with the deep offset and fouling of the front strut.

Maybe peterg7lyq would have some answers?

What an informed crowd, thank you.Could we use spacers or would it foul the wheel arch?

The rims of the S350 fit the W124 - the other way around it doesn't work, because the diameter of the rear drums is slightly bigger. It works with me with the rims. And I have the Original German Cars here, imported. Sometimes there are differences between Mercedes Benz D and USA. And the diesels have been stopped for years, due to US diesel fuel issues. Same with 190 Rims, on the rear of a W124 - don't fit. Same for W123 rims. I don't know about the latest series but this is about 124 and 126 stuff.

The tyres you throw away are the ones they sell here for $20- $30. In my basement I have 20 Rims +. Our company had 6 MB's here. 2 W126 and 4 W124 All have been "modified" by accidents and only one is still running, mine, with a front of 1994 and a rear of 1987. Anything later than 1995 is still to be discovered here. Salut.

Owning one of the safer motorcars, it'd be a shame to compromise the primary safety by using spacers. I'm told their use is "perfectly safe" however my concern is that it puts undue (and un engineered) load on the wheel studs/bolts. Having lost a wheel through compromised wheel studs I'm not too keen on them.

The other aspect is that it throws the steering geometry out as well.

Best to acquire rims that fit properly.

My tuppence worth.
