What's wrong with AWS (American Welding Society) standards?

Nothing wrong with AWS. But i want books for electrode selection. i saw books for elctrode selection but did remember their names now. it is easy to get information from book for a novice.

Try with the canadian Blue book for filler metals.

If you know the names of any electrode suppliers, ask them.

Can I know is there any thumb rule for calculating welding electrodes. Let me any easy calculation method for estimating welding electrodes for pipes and plate welding.

I doubt about possibility of any thumb rule. Every thing depends up on the materials to be welded. The filler should be compatible with the meterials to be welded.

Dear Pipeline Engineer, If you are looking for Electrodes and Filler Metal, product catalog published by LINCOLN Electric and ESAB may give you required knowledge. If you are interested in Welding Metallurgy, buy book of same title from American Welding Society. It is best book on the subject so far. If you are interested in Fundamental of Welding, become member of American Welding Society and they would send you all volume each Year an authenticated book on process - WELDING. Of course you need AWS Specification AWS A5.1 1973 (THE LATEST I KNOW). If you are interested in to hold command on successful weld joint, you would have to select electrodes/filler metal, process of welding, perform welding and test according to 1104 and establish a procedure for your project AND ENJOY YOUR SUCCESS .
