Home Depot sells a $400+ window version which probably pays for itself in one summer in arid places.
Now, to be sure, mine didn't look or work quite so good but mine didn't take up much room or hurt my back to install and it paid for itself in 5 days:
1. one gal/hour mister ~ $2
2. one 20" X 20" fan ~ $15
3. one 20" X 20" swamp mat made from shredded aspen ~ $5
4. 50' of 1/4" tubing ~ $4
5. valves & fittings ~ $5
The window fan blows into the house. Place it right up to the screen. Hang the mat on the outside next to the screen. Run the 1/4" tubing from an outdoor faucet to a couple feet above / away from the fan. Aim the mister at the mat.
This is better than an $80 window AC unit as you save some money on dry skin lotion as well as electricity.
