Can I Use Nitrocarburizing For Food Machine Parts?

06/01/2010 12:21 AM

I'd like to know what are the effect of this coating when it expose to highly corrosive food items. Will it be toxic? Currently I'm using nickel electroless plating of 30 micron, but unfortunately it is not working more than 8 to 9 months. My expected life of component is at least 18 months.

No I cant use stainless steel because that part should be able to work with magnetism. I tried with 400 series stainless steel but quantity of part is too much (10000 nos./month); that part is to small (it is just ring of 12mm in OD, 8.9 mm ID and 8 mm in length and it'd not be economical.
