After much investigation on the subject and having personally spoken with a number of well-respected experts in a wide-ranging and carefully-selected variety of fields ranging from higher academia to the spiritual community, it's my highly informed opinion that in the year 2012 the Earth will be approximately 1.5 years older than it is at this very moment.

Plan accordingly.

By "plan accordingly" I actually meant something more along the lines of buying a good quality wool sweater. Something nice and maybe on sale. You know - as foretold by prophecy.

I have time traveled to 2129 and seen very little improvement,no mention of any calamity in 2012 though.

Same old s**t that happens every year. Go watch the movie 2012 if you believe otherwise; however, don't think that China will come to the world's rescue. It too will be destroyed along with the rest of the world.

Re: 2012

I think that's just about enough time for the Mid East to explode in war, the way things are going. Iran's theocracy hopes for world wide catastrophe to herald the coming their "hidden imam" and they're trying their best to help the process. War there would enrage Muslims world wide and drag the rest of us in. Oil prices will skyrocket and economies will flounder. Soverign debt will trigger economic crisis world wide and people will lose faith in paper currency. Gold, silver and barter will be popular. China will be the new super power, both economically and militarily. St Malakey in the Middle Ages prophesied about 121 popes and that predicts one more after this one, and this one ain't no spring chicken! One could wonder what could bring about the end of the popes?! The Mayan calender predicts the end of the age and change. Work attributed to Nostradamus also warns about 2012 for whatever faith you put in him. There's an old curse that says, "May you live in interesting times!" I expect they might be very interesting!

Re: 2012

Its a little like any prediction, be it 01JAN2000 or any other mass-hysteria-causing-prediction. It will be just cause for some to make some huge profits on some non-needed items. It will be just cause for some to re-consider their life's priority (not a bad thing with or without some EOL event). For me? Well, if it is the END, it really won't matter what I do. It it is NOT the end, it really won't matter if I change anything I would otherwise do. For me, the only thing to be cautious of is not THE END, but the craziness of my fellow man who are concerned about it. Kind regards ...

Not just the infamous issues with the date roll-over as it regarded computers, but I had MANY friends who were stocking food (actually hoarding), buying survival gear, generators, storing gasoline. The morning of 01JAN2000, many were actually surprised that everything still worked okay, the lights were still on ... hmmm, and the sun still shone in the sky. That is my expectation for the day after "the end of the world". But, like I say, if I am wrong, it really won't matter. No one will be here to write the 'review'. Kind regards ...

İ believe you can depend on a lot of people being disappointed when 2012 is a normal year with nothing coming to an end - except maybe the Gulf oil leak. Hope to have sold a few houses by then - as you can only live in one at a time and they are not great collectors items. Make it easier to eat as well! Love to make a solar warm air addition to our home - the site and roof are perfect for that application.

Re: 2012

The oil spill will be over and the world will come to witness, in the courts, what happens when big boys play with too large toys.

The coastline will be set alight to burn off the oil which has by now combined with the foreshore. If I where Murphy I would know what to do, like send in a couple of Hurricanes. Predictions that it will devastate the regions further inland will be seen as wrong. There will be fires, like the prediction said, just for the wrong reasons.

There will be a movie titled "Mississippi Burning" but nothing will be the same.

I just hope this would all just go away. Not in 2012 but right now. Predictions, predictions, it's all happening right here and now. Not only spilling oil but spilling, wasting humanity and its true potential.

I care and act now and it's keeping me busy enough. 2012? Not even a philosophical problem but just boring and pretentious.

A bit cranky today, Ky?

2012 is the end of the Inca calendar. So if you're not an Inca, you're probably OK. If you are an Inca, you might have to switch to using someone else's calendar.

We'll have wars and peace, prosperity and famine, stock market fluctuations and economic changes. The stars will continue to shine, someone will write a great book/poem/song/sonata. Someone will be born, someone will die.

In other words, 2012 will be no big deal. Even though the Mayan calendar "ends" then, the Mayans believed that their calendar was circular, and simply rolled to start all over again.

Nice question sir. I think people are not to be worried because earth is only 30 million years old(4.56 billion) It is still to survive 20 million years if humans - the most dangerous personalities will make it possible easily by desired revival measures.Otherwise one minute is more than sufficient for humans to destroy the beautiful earth today also. What about 2012.Look the present & protect the future. Its now or never

I'm not sure anything significantly different will happen in 2012. But I do expect that some time in 2013 a small news report will point out that archaeologists back in the 1950's translated a Mayan document clearly from a local quarry. This document will clearly explain in the colorful language that laborers have used over the years, "We ain't gonna cut a F&#$% bigger rock just so your calender will be longer than Itzamna's. Who's gonna care for a calendar dat long. Nobody here is gonna be alive to see it end."

I, in fact, am from the future. Here's what happens:

  • Oil companies still control gas prices
  • Pez candy makes a comeback
  • America gets increasingly fatter. Lawsuits against Nabisco lead to removal of new 'Triple Stuff'd' Oreo cookie.
  • After many advances in cybernetics, Willie Nelson is the first person to become 50% robotic, in order to keep up with his deteriorating health due to age and touring schedule. This was a much needed procedure after diagnosis from multiple doctors concerning his other 50% hemp by-product composition.
  • After Obama's re-election in Nov. 2011, Google and Apple join forces to form Sky-Net. After becoming self-aware, nuclear apocalypse falls on July 30th of that year, which ironically happens to be Arnold Schwarzenegger's birthday.

Enjoy the little time you have left.
