Piping Design Engineer

02/19/2007 12:53 PM

I would like to start a user group in Piping Design Engineering. Anyone interested?

tks!

alegvold

(CR4 Admin: 8:08 AM 02/2007) Based on the overwhelming response, we've added a Piping Design Engineering type to the Engineering Fields User Group. All registered members of CR4 are welcome to join Piping Design Engineering or any other User Group.

If you have an image that you think conveys "Piping Design Engineering", send it our way and feel free to suggest any other user group that you'd like to see.

Best Wishes and thanks for the suggestion alegvold!

Re: Piping design engineer

Piping design engineering is composed from :

1. Process design related to pipe sizing, pressure drop, flow rate, type of fluid, ...etc.

2. Mechanical desisgn related to design drawings, design calculations (according to international codes), selecting of proper piping materials for pipes, fittings, flanges, ...etc., supports, pressure releaving devices, stress analysis, ... etc.

3. Fabrication (welding, preheating & PWHT), erection, inspection, ... etc.

Which branch you are interest in?

Re: Piping design engineer

piping design engineering is all of the above and more, therefore anything that is required of a piper to complete his/her part of the project is what I am interested in discussing, questioning and learning. I have over 33 years piping design engineering experience and am still consulting. I look forward to our future forum comments.

tks!

One thing, though. User groups are not forums. We're just beginning to roll out the user group concept and for the time being they're simply affinity groups. In the future we'll likely add forum and blogging capability, but for now the user groups serve to allow members of the CR4 community to identify themselves and find like-minded or like-focused individuals; and to identify themselves to the community as members/knowledgeable about a specific discipline, product or area.

I have noticed that you can only register yourself with one user group. As I am mainly involved with Mechanical and Design Engineering I have registered with the Mechanical group. I am quite interested in keeping in touch with the piping design side of things too. Any possibilities of being able to subscribe to two or more user groups in the future?

Hi Folks

Per Chris's request I just changed the Engineering Fields user group so you can now pick more than one field. (At some point we'll split the individual "fields" up into separate groups to make them more distinct from each other.)

Also, to the folks in this thread who expressed some interest, you can use this link to join. (Any existing member can send out personalized invitations too... poke around a little and you'll see how.)

As Chris probably mentioned, feel free to use any of the existing forums to ask questions or talk about this subject.

Re: Piping design engineer

FYI

I hate the icon that someone put on for piping design engineers. We don't do plumbing, we do refineries, petrochem, pharm, chem, process, utilities, etc. Not plumbing. I believe plumbing falls under building facilities, or something. Maybe someone has a more appropriate icon? Please?

Re: Piping design engineer

First, I hope the current badge is a little better.

As far as getting better images goes, imagine something smaller than a postage stamp, and that's about the level of detail we can handle. So, the best images are ones are well-lit with easy-to-remove backgrounds. (I remove the background to make the images "float" on the page... I do it in photoshop and it's not too hard if the background/stuff to remove isn't too busy.)

A picture of a refinery might work but it will look be really small, so the fact that it is a refinery might get lost. For my taste I like to think of the badge images as something that you might see or use every day as part of this job... maybe there is tool you use all of the time or a cool looking knot of pipes & gauges that just yells out "Piping!".

Anyway, feel free to send me images to the cr4admin@globalspec.com email address and I'll see what I can do. (If you have the images on the web somewhere, like www.flickr.com, I can look at them that way too.)

Thanks, Mark
