I am in South Africa and have a new and unique patented marketing tool; how to I connect with entrepreneurs/investors in the USA?

I would start by describing at least something about the proposed technique. So far, this is just a pig-in-a-poke.

If your invention is of international market value, have you done PCT filing and national phase to the designated countries where you seek protection? All needs to be done within 31 to 32 months from the date of your filing.

You may contact the US embassy in your country for possible business linkage which can connect you to potential collaborators.

Another way is to go for your own website keep campaigning on the technology - " say only what it does, advantages and cost benefits and never say how it does'

Trade associations relevant to the field are again potential meet place, who can help you better. make your presentation or sent the power point presentation and look for opportunities.

Be prepared for the toil journey.Best wishes

S Udh. is correct, you need to have filed a PCT application within one year of the filing of your S.A. application (or other national application), if that is what you did for patenting. (Or file individual applications in foreign countries within one year, instead of the PCT.) Otherwise, all opportunity to pursue foreign patents is lost. Then if you are seeking patent protection in the U.S., you must file your national phase application within 30 months of your S.A. application filing.

All that being said, you don't necessarily need a patent to be successful and make money. It depends on the product. Regardless, the hardest work is the manufacturing and marketing of it.

As far as commercialization goes, you might find some leads by searching the website of the Small Business Administration in the U.S. If your product is somehow geographically regional in the nature of its use, you may find some assistance from particular state economic development agencies in those regions. They are findable online, as are many venture funding organizations. It's a lot of digging, but I don't know of any single entity you could approach for all of the assistance you might need.

Whatever you do, STAY AWAY from "invention promotion" companies. Good luck to you.

jhammond

İnternational patent - a local patent is useless outside of the country/countries it is filed/granted in.

Garthh

Long time no see, all good in your neck of the woods?

can't you use your "unique marketing tool". to locate potential customers??

I was going to say that a while back but my sarcasm reduction valve set in.

Patents?

Only for some privileged earthlings that know how to properly use pest control products. The patent system being the pest and the law being the control. Any honest patent attorney (...yes, I know....) would agree with that, after a few drinks.

My cynicism valve keeps failing and although I could repair it, I just don't care any more.

Hi OP, if you are still there.

"how to I connect with entrepreneurs/investors in the USA?"

With great caution but you would need that in any country you approach, not only the USA, I suppose. Any investor knows that a patent is a living beast that needs to be fed and not only once or twice. It is not only applying for and it being granted, but defending it, if need be, which makes this exercise so difficult, complex and costly.

That is were the patent industry makes its profits. If you are not financially prepared for a fight you are not even a starter. They can breath thin air those legal eagles. Conflict of interest would be another nice subject, after a few drinks and a pool setting.

I wish I could be of more help, Ky.

Just running in different circles

I considered reporting the guy who posted his email

but our spiffy new moderators need something to do

any marketing innovation is going to have a very short shelf life

I can't imagine that lot having a bunch of integrity

the time to back engineer & implement being measured in minutes, hours or if it's tricky days
