No chance. Ask L&T if you don't believe me.

If the coil is rated for 440v and It is connected to 220v it will not be allowing the working of the contractor.

Expect many more answering of this.

I am an Indian. I can speak English, American (did you think they are the same? Please see 'MyFair Lady'), German, and 5 Indian languages. How many do you speak, friend?

People who abide in vitreous abodes should not use petriferous projectiles. Got that?

(People who live in glass houses should not throw stones)

Better you do not laugh at a guy making (patheitic, no doubt, but an attempt nevertheless) an inane statement in a foreign language.

Whenever I went to Germany, all I had to say was "entschuldigung, wie kann mann zum Bahnhof gehen?" and the average German would go out of his way to guide me to the railway station.

Can this young man expect this from an average American ?

I rest my case.

PS: The question is stupid, and he deserves to be blasted, but not on language please. We have Booker prize winners here

Sorry, my answer should have been to #1. He will understand anyway. But I still hope that my young Indian friends do not ask really stupid questions and get laughed at by many people. It hurts me.

A thousand pardons.

Please excuse my propensity for jest.

I am concerned that this may involve critical equipment and that undervoltage at the contactor coil can cause insufficient contact closure pressure and resulting arc induced damage to the contacts and in the case of a star-delta configuration with contact welding, there is the risk of physical harm in the form of an extremely high temperature plasma jet emanating from the enclosure.

It is just not right that you use a 440V coil for 220V supply. L&T will gladly supply you the 220V coil. Please don't fiddle around. If you give 220V supply to a 440V coil, and it picks up, it is operating at the limits of its margin. Keep it on for a few hours, and try again, it may not work. Don't try stupid things, ask L&T.

Thanks
