What Does Bearing Number Mean?

06/11/2010 11:59 AM

I 'd like to know what means the bearing number. Of course i know the meaning of ZZ Presently But what about the other letters & numbers please. Can somebody help me in this regard? A typical example would be 6309ZZC3GJN. What do C, 3,G,J and N mean? They may contain some information I suppose. Thanks

Have you ever looked in a catalogue from SKF, Timken, FAG or INA ?

Do you know that bearing manufacturers edit catalogues ?

If you make the effort -oh! how big - to look in a catalogue you will find -oh! miracle - all what you want to know and even with DETAILS.

And because it seems that you do not know there is "google" where you ask and get answers .

And if you read the indications what to do before a question on CR4 you will find informations how you can find on your own up to a level every thing.

Make your research before asking questions you can get on your own the answers!

Some suffixes can vary with manufacturer (which you can find in a bearing catalogue) but most of them remain same. Different bearing manufacturers normally use many same abbreviations. Yes, you are right these numbers contain full information required. First two letter in a bearing number specifies the type of bearing i.e self alogning, angular contact or deep groove etc. For example in your case 63 is for deep groove ball bearing single row. Second two letter describes the size of bearing. For exmple in your case it is 09 which tells that the bore deameter of your bearing is 09x5=45mm. ZZ you already know is for meatallic shield on bith sides. C3 is for bearing having more than normal clearance, normally used in high temperature applications like small Steam Turbines. G,J and N can be different for different bearing manufacturers but for SKF J is for steel cage and N is for groove in the outer ring for snap ring. You can find more detail and bearing selection charts alongwith their descriptions on website thepetrostreet.com/forums

Dear psrupashinghe,

ZZ refers to both sides of the bearing is SHIELDED.

Your question cannot be answered in one para or one page.

Pl. refer the MANUFACTURER's CATALOGUE which will describe fully and also guide how to select a bearing.
