Master Key For RS Logix 5 Damaged

06/16/2010 6:23 AM

Dear Friends,

We have Rockwell Software RS Logix 5 in the HMI PC of one of our machine. Whenever I want to open the PLC program and go online with PLC, I have to insert a floppy disk having Master Key for software then program opens. Now the floppy disk has damaged and I unable to open the program.

Can anybody help me out?

If it is legitimate software, registered to you, Rockwell should supply you with a replacement copy.

Rockwell Automation has replaced two Master Disks of ours, even long after the Tech Support contract has expired. They were very responsive and would send the disks using Overnight Delivery.

Yep, same here. They were very helpful and responsive. You need the serial number of your software and they will send the software key to the address where the original software was sent. Of course, we had to buy a USB floppy drive since none of our computers have a 3.5 inch floppy drive anymore.

As lynlynch said, rckwell will provide you a new one if it is legaly purchassed,

but you are not supposed to use the master disk every time you have to access the PLC, you can move the activatin key to the hard disk and keep the flopy in safe place.

But as you are doing this every time, this means there is no activation on it, it is not a registered copy, or registered to the oem and the activatin already installed somewhere else .

In this case better to contact the oem , your machine supplier .

Is this another case of someone trying to use CR4 for illegal purposes?

Furthermore, all floppy and tape media (the media is very similar in the way its made and used) must NEVER be used as an ONLY read source as the action of reading will eventually damage the ultra thin coating and cause missreads......

Its best to have a backup copy for daily usage and only use the original for making a new copy. If the media is "uncopyable", then the company concerned must replace damaged copies quickly for true customers....

Modern tape media for example has a coating only 1.6 microns thick.......and this is a great problem for many companies because they do not know how to stop such damage occurring......that was part of my job for many years to re-train them in its proper usage!!!
