Importance of Uniformity Coefficient

what is the importance,significance of uniformity coefficient in back filling, actually we are doing backfilling behind RE walls of flyover, but the design requirement of backfill material is very high and not available locally. so some options to be searched

Not having the specifications for the backfill or understanding RE walls, my guess would be that the uniformity coefficient is there to insure that the backfill would drain properly. I would consider it important that the backfill not retain water.
