Rotation of Hydro-Generator and Turbine

06/18/2010 5:33 AM

Is it true that for rotation of hydro-generator and turbine, we have to first know the layout of Penstock and all before deciding on direction of rotation? Please do enlighten me.

You can't use a generator built in the southern hemisphere in the northern hemisphere and vice versa. If you do, they will suck all the electricity out of the wires and explode.

It's a laugh a minute. I'm a Gemini, what can I say? I'm as serious as a heart attack about some things, and then again..........................

It can be true for a Pelton Wheel but for other types of water turbines direction of motion is governed by spiral casing and the wicket gates, for the Kaplin turbine the water flow is axial here also the layout of penstock is not a consideration.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other. If you pick the turbine rotation first, then you have to design the penstocks to feed in the matching direction. If you design the penstocks first, then you have to select the turbine rotation to match the infeed direction of the penstocks. Tomayto, tomahto. (Classically known as mutatis mutandis.)

The question is unanswerable, because the forum knows nothing about the capability of <...we..>.
